Belgian legislation requires certain hospitality businesses to connect a fiscal data module, also known as a black box, to their POS. Businesses could already switch voluntarily from 2014 onward and benefit from significant cost reductions. The black box ensures that all POS transactions are recorded in an indelible way, allowing the tax authorities to verify the data easily.

For many hospitality businesses, the investment cost can remain limited to a single unit because multiple POS systems can share one black box. Using multiple black boxes, however, increases operational reliability and processing speed.
